A good marriage: link2mobile from Gigaset unites fixed network and mobile communications
Gigaset Communications is introducing a new function that links mobile phones to a telephone system. “link2mobile” is installed on the Gigaset DX600A, DX800A and DL500A, three new desktop phones for the home, the home office and small firms with up to four employees. The new function integrates mobile phones in a telephone system via Bluetooth so that fixed-network phones can be used to take incoming calls from a mobile phone and to make calls over the GSM network.
Always reachable
Once the Bluetooth connection has been set up between the mobile phone and the fixed-network device, users only need to press a key to reconnect the mobile phone with their office phone when they return from business appointments, for example. This has many advantages: Users can make and take all their calls conveniently using a single Gigaset phone and at the same time recharge their mobile phone or find the best spot to place it if reception conditions are difficult. Up to six handsets can be registered with the new Gigaset phones, which offer maximum freedom of movement at home or work with a range of up to 50 meters indoors and 300 meters outdoors.
Lower costs
Charges can be reduced, too, thanks to the free choice of network. While the fixed network or IP connection is usually cheapest for international calls or phoning pay-per-call services, for example, link2mobile lets users make use of attractive flat rates for mobile phones – for instance for calls to subscribers in certain mobile networks. That makes link2mobile a useful function that helps save money.
Greater convenience at home
Fixed-network phones are far superior to mobile phones in terms of ergonomics: They do not have to fit into every trouser pocket and can offer generous keys and displays and a convenient size. High-quality loudspeaker and microphone components ensure a pleasant, full sound to enable perfect communication. Moreover, cutting-edge ECO DECT technology permits energy-saving, low-radiation operation, which many people greatly appreciate at home. The three Gigaset phones turn off their transmission power when they are not being used for calls. If desired, the transmitting power between the base station and handset can be reduced by 80 percent during calls thanks to ECO Mode. If no handset is active, the transmitter is deactivated.
Contacts perfectly organized
All personal and professional contacts can be synchronized between the phones and a PC and kept up-to-date with the aid of the free QuickSync software. Addresses from mobile phones can be imported in vCard format via Bluetooth. There is space for storing up to 500 contacts, and they can be assigned photos that are displayed when they call. All three models can be connected to a PC via a LAN cable and can access free content from Gigaset.net (www.gigaset.net) over the Internet. This includes online white and yellow pages, which allow users to search directly for numbers from their phone and to automatically send the caller’s contact data to the phone’s display when someone calls. Other services are weather reports, e-mail notification, information services in the form of RSS feeds and much more. Software updates for the devices are also offered in this way.
Connectivity for all needs
While the Gigaset DL500A is designed for connection to the analog fixed network, the Gigaset DX600A supports ISDN. The Gigaset DX800A is a true all-rounder, offering connection to the analog and ISDN fixed-networks as well as VoIP with six possible SIP accounts. In fact, the DX800A boasts ten possible ISDN MSN numbers, one GSM connection and up to six SIP accounts, giving a total of 17 numbers that the device can manage with complete ease. As a result, four simultaneous calls – two via ISDN and two via IP – are possible with a normal DSL/ISDN connection. All three models offer the link2mobile function for integrating mobile phones via Bluetooth and for connection to a PC by means of Ethernet. The DX800A isdn is also equipped with a second Ethernet port so that the PC and phone can be connected to the modem with just one cable. A fax port is integrated in the DX600A and DX800A. All three models have integrated answering machines, which can be configured individually for three extension numbers with the DX600A and DX800A.
Price and availability
The link2mobile function is pre-installed on the new Gigaset DL500A and DX800A and on DX600Aphones manufactured in September or later. The new function can be installed on Gigaset DX600A devices produced before then by means of a software update.
