Experience quality made in Germany – Gigaset Communications presents image film “Gigaset Quality”
Before it goes into series production, a Gigaset is subjected to tough tests to make sure it can withstand drops, dust, jolts and cold. The new film “Gigaset Quality” shows the standards quality phones have to meet before they are shipped to stores. It also documents the efforts made by Europe’s leading phone maker, Gigaset Communications, in manufacturing its products and rigorously testing their quality. Quickly paced film sequences provide an insight into the world of telephone production as well as development work, the Quality Lab, environmental management and customer service. The film can be downloaded free of charge fromhttp://www.gigaset.com/press.
What does quality mean at Gigaset Communications? The vast majority of customers associate the label “Made in Germany” with top quality and reliability. Gigaset Communications meets these expectations by performing extensive checks in its own Quality Lab that cover all the stages in the process, ranging from a hand-made prototype to shipment. Sustainable production, environmental awareness and service are part of the company’s mission and vision and are confirmed every year by TÜV certification according to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001. For its outstanding change management, Gigaset Communications’ plant in Bocholt has won the award “Factory of the Year” several times, most recently for 2008.
The new image film on “Gigaset Quality” is a look behind the scenes at individual points in the process of producing Gigaset phones, from their design on a computer and production of prototypes to intensive quality testing. With the help of equipment developed at the company, tests are performed in the lab under as natural conditions as possible to make sure that Gigaset products stand up well under stress and strain. The phones are subjected to dirt, dust, cold and heat, for example, and everyday situations are simulated. The jeans pocket test, for instance, sees how they withstand being put into and taken out of a jeans pocket containing crumbs and dust. In the drop test, the phone is thrown from a height of 1.52 meters onto a hard stone slab 16 times. The jolt test simulates transportation in a truck and gives the phone a good shaking. To test the batteries, a robotic arm places the Gigaset in the charging cradle and removes it 25,000 times. Finally, acoustic tests are carried out using an artificial head in a sound-proof room to ensure the very highest voice quality.
Quality also means innovation: The film shows the example of the new, intelligent antenna technology of the Gigaset SL780, in which the metal frame acts as the antenna. Gigaset Communications also stands for ecological awareness. Its phones have ECO DECT technology to save energy and reduce radiation during calls, as well as to switch off transmitting power during standby mode. Production complies with the very strictest quality and ecological standards, and since 2007 it has been certified according to ISO 14001 on the strength of its particularly good environmental management. Service is another area in which the company has set high quality standards. Returned devices are individually examined and repaired if necessary.
Quality pays off. Gigaset phones have received awards from many magazines and independent institutions. Numerous products have also won design prizes, for example the IF Design Award. And millions of people confirm their satisfaction every year by buying a new Gigaset phone.
